The Song of The Masochist‘ is out today. It’s the second single from Tim’s upcoming new album Tim Minchin Time Machine, which will be out July 25th 2025.

You can listen to/download ‘The Song of The Masochisthere. (Lyrics below)

Tim: “Masochist is a jam track written in my early 20s, and might be unique in that it’s the only one from that era that I’ve never fallen out of love with. Sitting as it does in that place between satire and serious, it has never made it into one of my major tours… until this year. I’m stoked with this studio version, which I had taught to the boys the day before, and recorded bass, drums and guitar as live. I reckon you can feel that chaotic immediacy, yet it’s rooted in Mannell and Haselwood’s bang-in-the-pocket groove. I fkn love that groove.”

The Song of The Masochist Lyrics

Did you really think that I would love you again?
Did you think I’d just forgive the things that you’ve done to me?

You must think I’m a masochist
If you thought I’d just put up with this
And take you back again

Who do you think I am?

Did you think I’d just

Sit around and wait for you to sort out your stuff?
Ring you up fortnightly to reiterate my love for you?

You must think I’m a masochist
I’d just as soon go and slit my wrists
As take you back again

Who do you think I am?

Did you really think that I would let you have it all?
Spending time alone while making sure you keep a hold on me?

You must think I’m a masochist
I’d just as soon go and slit my wrists
As take you back again

Who do you think I am?

Much love from a fellow Perthonality Tim :) You never cease to inspire, delight and challenge me through your art. Brilliant and wise, witty and whimsical. Not to mention an exceptional songwriter, composer and performer. Oh and a bloody good Beat Poet, to boot.

Congratulations on all that you have accomplished and thank you for sharing your art with us all. You are a bright spark in a machinated world that rewards the derivative and dull over the eccentric and radical.

Whenever I’m having a bad day I listen to “Thank you, God” and it never fails to
brighten my mood and reset my angst-filled perception of life so again I can appreciate the beauty in life and remember how lucky I am to be me. Warts and all :)

(NB: I don’t actually have Herpes, just for the record ;)

Tim Minchin’s ability to blend humor with poignant social commentary is truly remarkable. I love how he challenges conventions and makes us think while making us laugh. His performances are always a breath of fresh air!
